The Future Film Festival is proud to announce another great film in the main competition this 2017, Ethel and Ernest by Roger Mainwood.
Based on the award-winning book by acclaimed British author and illustrator Raymond Briggs, this beautifully hand-drawn, animated feature film tells the true story of Raymond’s own parents – Ethel and Ernest - two ordinary Londoners living through a period of extraordinary events and immense social change.
Heart-warming, humorous and bittersweet, the film follows the lives of lady’s maid Ethel and milkman Ernest from their first chance meeting in 1928, through the birth of their son Raymond in 1934, to their deaths, within months of each other, in 1971.
From the socially stratified 1920s to the moon landing of 1969, the film depicts, through Ethel and Ernest’s eyes, the most defining moments of the 20th Century: the darkness of the Great Depression, the build up to World War II, the trials of the war years, the euphoria of VE Day and the emergence of a generation from post war austerity to the cultural enlightenment of the 1960s.
A multi-generational team of top British talent breathes life into the characters headed up by Oscar® winner Jim Broadbent and Golden Globe winner Brenda Blethyn in the title roles and Olivier Award winner Luke Treadaway as Raymond. They are joined by leading actors Virginia McKenna, June Brown, Pam Ferris, Simon Day and Roger Allam, with young actor Harry Collett as young Raymond.
Echoing the lives and concerns of the London working classes through momentous social and political change, Ethel & Ernest is a heartfelt and affectionate tribute to an ordinary couple and an extraordinary generation.

A new precious film is enriching the lineup of the 2017 Future Film Festival! It's the documentary Floyd Norman - An Animated Life, directed by Michael Fiore and Erik Sharkay and dedicated to the life and career of the first afroamerican animator working for Walt Disney.
Animator, storyteller, troublemaker. At 80 years old, the legend Floyd norman keeps on working hard in spite of his forced pre-retirement at 65 years old.
"A delicious documentary on a man that has brought much joy in your life, even though you probably don't even know".

This year the Future Film Festival is enriched by a brand new space dedicated to comic book artists and live sketching: the Comics Zone!
A space where comics artists and drawers will draw their fabolous characters or create new ones just for the FFF.
Everyday at 18:00 an italian comic book artist will draw for (and with) the audience of FFF.
During the rest of the day all the illustrators, drawers or amateurs will be able to add their creations to the zone.
From the 2 to the 7 of May, in the Piazzetta Pasolini.

Young bully Giko Nokomura weilds the chainsaw like no one else, a talent inherited by his deceased father. At school Giko has a rival named Nero Aoi that is turning all her classmates in cyborg zombies at her command. Giko find herself targeted by envious Nero and the dangerous transgender Hanzo frm the school's Ninja Club.

It’s time to announce a new guest of the XIX edition of the Future Film Festival: Victor Perez, special effects supervisor and spfx artist with over 20 years of production experience in computer graphics and visual effects and many Oscars collaborations.
Among the films in which he collaborated we can list The dark knight rises by Christopher Nolan, Harry Potter and the deathly hallows by David Yates and the more recent Rogue One: a Star Wars story. In Italy he is the visual director of the movie Il ragazzo invisibile 2 by Gabriele Salvatores, currently under work.
Victor Perez will hold a masterclass on the creation of visual effects for the cinema.

The italian preview of A Monster Calls, the new movie by J.A. Bayona - author of The Orphanage and The Impossible - with Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones, Toby Kebbell, Lewis MacDougall and Liam Neeson, is going to open the XIXth edition of the Future Film Festival the 2 of May.
Premiering in italian cinemas next 18 May, A monster Calls is a movie of a great emotional impact, based on the famous and awarded novel by Patrick Ness (also screenwriter of the film), published in 2011 and translated in over 40 languages after receiving a worldwide success.
A monster Calls tells the moving story of the encounter between twelve years old Conor, bullied and forced to live with his cold and detached grandmother due to his mother's illness, and the fantastic creature that the boy evoques in his dreams to escape the solitude of his real world. And the creature manifests itself every night 7 minutes after midnight, to tell Conor stories, fragents of an emotional journey in seek of the thruth.

Two brand new entries for all the family in the lineup of the 2017 Future Film Festival, Richard the stork by Toby Genkel and Reza Memari and Chieri and Cherry by Makoto Nakamura.
Richard Missione Africa tells the story of a sparrow adopted by a family of storks and his incredible adventure across Europe accompanied by an eccentric owl and a parakeet full of himself.
Chieri and Cherry is the stop-motion path of a young girl facing the difficulties in her life building her future.

Richard has been adopted by a family of storks, but is a sparrow. This condition causes him many problems whe his family, as winter comes, sets off for the usual migration to Africa. Richard would like to g with them but his small wings can't sustain him for a journey this long. To reach his family and shw them he's a real stork, Richard will begin a journey that will make him cross Europe with the help of an eccentric owl and a narcisistic parakeet. It's the beginning of a great adventure.

Sixth grader Chiery lost her father when she was little and now lives only with her mother. With her mother busy at work, there is no one to keep Chiery company. The only friend to Chieri is Cherry, a stuffed toy found in a storeroom at the time of her father's funeral: it talks and plays with Chieri, and helps her go through her life in place of her late father. When she visits the grandmother’s place for the father’s memorial, they find a stray dog giving birth to puppies, but a mean crow and strange monster come trying to get the baby dogs. Can Chieri and Cherry save their lives?

Bill Plympton, one of the FFF favourite authors and autarchic animator, already homaged with a retrospective in 2004 and winner of the Platinum Grand Prize in 2014 with his masterwork Cheatin. This year he overcome himself gifting us with a movie, Revengeance, and two shorts, The Loneliest Stopnight and Cop Dog, last chapter of the puppy awarded saga started in 2004 with Guard Dog.
Revengeance, co-directed with another master of the underground animation, Jim Lujan, is an irreverent and wild noir western, that gives a caustic and grotesque view of America, magnificently up to the times of the Trump government.

Black cats, cowboys seeking for justice in deep space, cardboard spaceships, dreamy feasts, Lovecraft&Poe, endless nights, ancestral legends and post-apocaliptic scenaries; in the last twenty years italian cinema created imaginary, fantastic and weird worlds, rich in inventive and poor in budget.
