The Tale of Despereaux

Presented as closing event of Future Film Festival eleventh edition (January 27th – February 1st 2009), The Tale of Despereaux is now released on Italian screens.
The latest mouse of a lot of rodents on tv and cinema, Despereaux is a strange mouse, little and brave, elegant and full of enthusiasm. Since he was a child, Despereaux is a very eccentric mouse, with a very marked 
intelligence. He lives a series of adventures and he knows also a human princess. He’s banished from his home for not following the rules that society expects of a mouse, but he has a mission: rescue the princess.
The making of the movie
The movie realized with 3D animation, is directed by San Fell (Flushed Away) and Bob Stevenhagen and it’s based on the children tale by Kate DiCamillo, best seller on 2003. The animation style remembers an illustrated book even though the movie 
is a CGI film. The graphic touch is inspired by the great Flemish school with master as Vermeer and Brueghel.
The animation was edited by the company Framestore Animation, famous for special effects of Harry Potter and The Golden Compass. The Framestore has preserved the movie style and it has applied pictorial techniques to the digitalization, keeping natural colours. Also the costumes have been created first with cloth, to preserve the tactile feature and to create a point of reference for the animators. 
The staff has studied the European medieval architecture to create very realistic sets of the movie.
The movie remembers the classic Disney movies for its classic rhythm, the refined animation style and the soft humorism.
Curiosities: there are 413,158 hairs on Despereaux’s head and the film has 126,248 frames altogether.
